In the case of the female passenger killed in Shenzhen, the suspect used her real ID card, driver’s license and license plate Guangdong B6S8N3 to register and pass the review on the Hitch platform, but the forged license plate of the vehicle involved was Guangdong C2S8N3. At that time, in the system, the driver’s license plate would generally conceal part of the number, leaving only the word "Guangdong" and the last three numbers or letters. That is to say, in this case, the murdered female passenger could not find that the license plate did not match.
From May 4th, the number hiding function will be cancelled, and all cars that passengers hit on the Didi platform will display their full license plate numbers.
Recently, in Shenzhen, where the incident occurred, some Didi Express owners reported receiving SMS notifications of temporary bans and were asked to verify their identities and relevant documents of the vehicles. It is understood that about 8,000 owners are involved.
The owner said that the ID card, driving license, and driver’s license should be re-inspected.
Li Mei, a senior public relations manager at Didi’s public relations department, said in an interview with the media that the platform is regularly rectified. He said that this message was sent by them. Every once in a while, they will remind and rectify drivers with abnormal driver’s license or vehicle information on the platform, or with poor service quality on the platform.
Didi said that this time is not a ban, because the driver can withdraw cash normally. Miss Li, a passenger in Guangzhou, reported that on the evening of May 3, she called a taxi through the Didi Chuxing platform and received a contact number from the driver. Unexpectedly, the driver negotiated with her and said the fare was 20 yuan.
"I called a taxi, but it was a private car, and the license plate number did not match. When Didi took the order, he called me and told me the price, not the meter. At that time, because the place was not very safe, before I got on the bus, there were several vans around to pull me into the car, so I wanted to hurry up," Miss Li said.
The taxi platform shows that the license plate of the taxi that received Miss Li’s order is Guangdong B with the tail number × × × 91, but the picture provided by the passenger shows that the license plate number of the car that actually came to receive the order is Guangdong S K × × 36.
Miss Li dodged the black car by her side, but finally got into the private car that blocked the work. After arriving at the destination, the owner raised the fare to 60 yuan, and at this time, Miss Li found that the order on the software had been "completed".
Miss Li introduced: "He said it couldn’t be that much. He wanted 60 yuan for life and death, so he took out tools and wanted to hit someone. He said he wanted to call someone, and we also said you called someone and I called someone. My dad called. He got in the car, turned around and hit us. There were calls to the police. There were threats of text messages, he said he told their boss that he wanted two fingers from my dad."
Why did the order come from a taxi, but a private car? In response to this matter, Didi’s latest response said that it was initially confirmed that the order was privately transferred to the private car driver after the taxi driver took the order. This is a behavior prohibited by the platform, and the relevant account has been permanently banned and the cooperation with the driver has been cancelled.
Ye Yun, the head of public relations for Didi Kuaidi, said that after receiving a complaint, the account was frozen. He said that if the account is frozen first, the account can no longer take orders. For example, due to disputes with passengers during the service, or passengers complaining that the car does not match the person and car, many situations may temporarily freeze or give drivers a final ban.
Regarding the discrepancy between the cars, Ye Yun said that once passengers encounter this situation, they must not get on the bus, and it is best to complain immediately. He pointed out that as long as the car comes and the license plate number displayed online is different, we urge passengers not to get on the bus. And they must complain in our software or customer service as soon as possible. Regarding the threatening behavior complained by passengers, Didi said it recommended that both parties call the police as soon as possible.
However, the reporter noticed that according to the passenger, Miss Li, before she got on the bus, the private owner already knew her mobile phone number and took the initiative to contact her. After the dispute, he also sent text messages through his mobile phone that the passenger considered threatening.
That is to say, the driver can know the passenger’s mobile phone number registered on the platform. So, if the mobile phone numbers of the passenger and the driver are hidden and only dialed through the platform, but not all mobile phone numbers of both parties are displayed, can this reduce the occurrence of harassment, abuse or threats to a certain extent?
Ye Yun said that the number privacy protection function is being tested in some areas. This function of number privacy protection is already OK in the research and development stage. At present, an online trial is done in Tianjin. So, in a large-scale, possibly tens of millions of orders a day, there may still be some areas to improve in system adaptability, user experience and user education. So there is no national push yet. But we will improve it as soon as possible.
From a legal point of view, it is difficult to hold the platform accountable for legal disputes between passengers and drivers on the online ride-hailing platform. The platform is only the publisher of the information, and there is no labor relationship or labor relationship between the driver and the driver. The law does not stipulate that the platform is responsible for the problems caused by the driver in the process of receiving orders. But there are exceptions, that is, the drivers hired by the platform itself.
