Peng Yuyan’s film "Emergency Rescue", which has been away from the big screen for nearly two and a half years, was released on December 18. He admitted that the first time he heard about the film was in 2015. As soon as he saw the words "Director Lin Chaoxian", he knew it would be very enjoyable, but it would also be full of challenges. And this is why he wanted to work with Lin Chaoxian.
In the film, Peng Yuyan takes on the heavy responsibility and plays the role of Gao Qian, the captain of the maritime emergency response team. He believes that the rescue team is a profession that gives "hope for life" to others, and as soon as the alarm rings, he will face death. "Rescuers" have their own "mascot" in their hearts. This mascot is not only courage, but also belief in their profession and life. Only in this way can they forget themselves and leave their lives to save others.
Regarding the role:
Leave the hope of life to others.
Leave the risk of death to yourself
Peng Yuyan’s character in the movie is called "Gao Qian". He is the captain of the maritime secret service team. He is a man with great courage, experience and a strong sense of responsibility. He has also performed many tasks and saved many people. Before filming, Peng Yuyan deeply understood the maritime secret service team, trained with the team members, and went on missions together. In his opinion, "rescuers" face "life and death decisions" every day, and their purpose and principle is to "leave the hope of life to others and the crisis of death to themselves."
"China Film News":You are playing the captain of the maritime secret service team. Have you learned what dangers real rescue team members may face?
Peng Yuyan:Before filming, I read a lot of materials to understand what their lives were like, and I also trained with them. Once we were on a mission, we happened to be training, and then I went to the scene with them to see how they saved people.
It’s hard to imagine what kind of willpower they need to save a life. For example, more than 20 people fell into the water, but only 3 minutes was enough to save two people. This is the human tragedy they have to face. After experiencing it, they realized how amazing they are. "Leave the hope of life to others, and the crisis of death to yourself", this is the purpose and principle of rescuers.
"China Film News":Which scene or scene impressed you the most?
Peng Yuyan:There are many scenes that are deeply impressed, and many "firsts" are the most unforgettable. For example, the first time I was blown up by fire, I was blown up by a fire of more than 600 degrees, and I also experienced "being fried by water", which is why I learned that water can "blow people up". When shooting a play directed by Lin Chaoxian, you will be "abused" in various ways, but the actors can absorb nutrients in the process, which is why we fell in love with the director, and let us make an unforgettable movie work.
"China Film News":After filming this movie, what inspired you?
Peng Yuyan:Now if I’m on a plane, I’m going to read the rescue manual, see where the escape pod is, see the people nearby, and if something does happen, who needs help. It’s become instinctive now. When the flight attendant introduces the escape pod, I think about the past eight months of training and keep telling myself that if something really happened today, I could save people.
"China Film News":The rescue team members in the story all carried out the rescue work with the spirit of "sacrificing their lives". Is "exchanging life for life" worth it? How do you view this spirit?
Peng Yuyan:Every mission was because of a disaster, so the lifeguards needed to have a very high psychological quality. As long as the alarm sounded and the mission was received, they would face death, and their own lives might be sacrificed to save the victims.
When I was in class, I was also exposed to many cases. Rescuers shared that they all have their own "mascot" in their hearts. This mascot is not only courageous enough, but also believes in career and life. In this way, they can forget themselves and leave their lives to save others.
Regarding Lin Chaoxian:
His persistence and enthusiasm infected me
"Emergency Rescue" is Peng Yuyan’s fourth collaboration with Lin Chaoxian after "Guild Wars", "Breaking Wind" and "Operation Mekong". Speaking of his impression of the "hardcore director", Peng Yuyan said that the director is very persistent about what he likes, and often only gives one chance.
"His persistence and enthusiasm infected me, and as an actor, I often think that I only have one chance. Then summon up the confidence to shoot, throw me in the fire, blow me up, no problem," Peng Yuyan said.
"China Film News":Does Director Lin Chaoxian have a different meaning for you?
Peng Yuyan:He admires me a lot, and I respect him a lot. Very few actors can work with the same director four times, which is very rare. And to some extent, there is also a problem of habit. Many times, some running-in parts can be omitted, and it is already a bit like "family".
"China Film News":Will playing a film directed by Lin Chaoxian be a bit like a "reality show", an immersive experience?
Peng Yuyan:Whether it’s "methodical" or "experiential", it’s actually about allowing yourself to enter the character. My approach is to immerse yourself and live that person’s life. That’s how people on the rescue team are like, getting along with each other every day, feeling like I’m living in their world. In seven years, I experienced four different lives.
From Guild Wars to the present, neither the director nor I have changed. The big screen has the power of appeal and penetration, and this energy is what we want to pursue. The director has a new role for me every year or two, and I feel lucky.
"China Film News":Your role has gradually changed from the original "executor" to the director’s partner?
Peng Yuyan:This statement feels very good. If the director thinks I am a piece of jade, he can sculpt in the movie and "play" different tricks. I find it very enjoyable to shoot his play, and I am very happy to be portrayed by him into different images. Since "Breaking Wind", there has been a feeling of fighting side by side, and the same is true in "Operation Mekong". This is even more true in "Emergency Rescue". The director himself said that because he knew that filming this play would be very hard, he asked me to act, because I will definitely train hard. With one person taking the lead, other people will also have motivation and condense into a rescue team. The director naturally believes that what he shot is real.
"Emergency Rescue" had a lot of dangerous scenes this time, and the director and I went down to shoot together. He hoped to give me a stable strength. Although I couldn’t speak in the water, I knew what he wanted to shoot with a glance, which would be much easier than the photographer coming down to shoot.
"China Film News":If there is a chance to work with a director on a fifth film, is there a more popular genre?
Peng Yuyan:Every time we would run and talk, we would come up with a theme and he would ask me what I liked and I would ask him what he liked. We’ve talked a lot before, such as racing, action, gunplay, but I usually don’t set limits on his movies because I believe in him.
